Adult Programming

The Department of Community Programs offers a variety of different recreational opportunities for adults in the Summit Community. Below is a lisiting of classes currently being offered, which are open to adults.

Pickleball

Course Description: Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is played on a badminton-sized court with a perforated plastic ball, similar to a wiffle ball, and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, and can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players!

  

Table Tennis (Sundays)

Dates: Sundays, February 9, 23; March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; April 5

Times: 3:00 – 4:00   for youth ages 8 – 12 & 4:00 – 5:00   for youth 13 & older, adults
Weeks of Program:  8 weeks
Location: 100 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ
Cost per participant: $90

Course description: Our table tennis program will be taught by a top ranked player in the United States Table Tennis Association. This program will introduce you to the basics of table tennis and develop your skills to attain proficiency at a club level and possibly entry level USTTA tournament. The program is designed to develop skills in footwork, positioning, tactics, flat hitting, blocking, looping, pushing, reading spins and most importantly serving.   Players will learn the rules of the game and will have a greater appreciation of the game.

Each session consists of stroke practice, drills to develop movement, hitting, and coordination.  Players will put their newly learned skills into action. There will be group games, individual club matches for ratings, challenge the pro!

Most importantly, you’ll have fun learning new skills & playing!


Sign Language

6:00-6:45 Sign Language Course for teens and adults

Hourly Classroom Time: 1 hour
Weeks of Program: 8 weeks

$150 per session

No background knowledge is required, just come ready to learn and have fun! 

Sign Language Course for teens and adults:   This course introduces the basics of American Sign Language. This course is designed for students with no or minimal sign language skills to develop basic skills in use of ASL and knowledge of Deaf culture. Emphasis on comprehension, production and interaction skills using basic grammatical features. ASL will be taught within contexts and related to everyday life experiences.
