Weekly Specialty Camps
Each summer the Department of Community Programs strives to put together a robust schedule of specialty camps. These camps all run by the week and typically run Monday through Friday, reserving Friday as a raindate in the event the camp is held outside. Offerings include STEAM, Art, Fashion, Pony, Sports, Golf, Drones and more! These specialty camps are all run through third party contractors. Part I – Weekly Specialty Camps
- All camps are held at Summit’s Cornog Field House at 5 Myrtle Ave, Summit, NJ
- Camps run Monday through Thursday
- Morning Sessions run from 8:15 AM until 12:15 PM and Afternoon Sessions run from 12:30 PM until 4:30 PM
Week of June 26
A: Morning Session
Class Name: Gross Out Science
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
Miss Manners might not approve but your child definitely will! Gross out camp is a week of learning about our gross bodily functions. Burping, boogers, excrement, gas, saliva, germs and how our brain, cells, heart, organs and blood contribute to this. Make exploding "toothpaste", edible excrement and handmade ice cream. Take home your own slimy "boogers" and more!

C: Morning Session
Class Name: Magic Makers
Age Range: Children entering grades K-5 in September 2023
Can you make rabbits appear from nowhere? Can you make scarves disappear? Can you change one thing into another? Tada! Now you can! You will experience amazing fun when you learn the secrets of our jaw-dropping illusions. Once you’ve transformed into a Magical Master, you’ll get to share your new skills with friends and family in a real magic show at your school…and keep all the tricks!

Class Name: NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
From our Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program sends children on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars and more are all waiting to be discovered. Learn about the four forces of flight, the challenges of space travel, and even build your own model rocket!

Class Name: SPY KIDZ - Double 0 Trouble!
Age Range: Children entering grades K-5 in September 2023
Good morning, Secret Agent. Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to aquire top secret skills that will make you the perfect spy. You will learn to disguise and infiltrate, to listen without being seen, and see without being noticed. But be prepared: this class is not for the faint-hearted. You will have a top-secret mission every week that you have to complete or your cover will be blown! This Program Guide will self destruct in 5 seconds.
F: Afternoon Session
Class Name: Jewelry Studio
Age Range: Children entering grades K-5 in September 2023
Don’t you wish that you could make your own jewelry and wear it whenever you want? In this unique jewelry course we will make every kind of jewelry – chokers, rings, necklaces, necklaces and more necklaces. You will be dripping in jewelry that you can give to your mom as the best gift she ever got, or keep for yourself to wear any time.

G: Morning Session
Class Name: Eureka
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
Inventing means curiosity, practicality, necessity, and imagining the future! Join us in our Eureka Camp as we step into outer space by launching self-built stomp rockets. Children will witness a volcanic eruption, and learn how magnets can help search for shipwrecks. They will work together to design & build bridges and boats to eventually escape an island and find their way home! Children will even have the chance to launch projectiles with catapults and a large trebuchet!
H: Afternoon Session
Class Name: Bot Builder Camp with Cubelets
Age Range: Children entering grades 1-5 in September 2023
Kids will explore the basic components of robotics by playing with modular cubes known as Cubelets®! Snapping the cubes together in different ways will create unique robots, but what matters most is figuring out the perfect robot recipe to solve a challenge. Kids will work together to create lighthouses, vehicles, and more cool super cool creations. Let's tinker, design, predict, code, and play all day, and shhhh, don't tell that it's educational!

NEW classes every week! ~ SCIENCE EXPLORATION ~ S.T.E.A.M. ~ MOSAIC STORY TELLING and ART ~ KIDDIES AROUND THE WORLD ~ ROBOTICS and ENGINEERING ~ OUTSIDE PLAY ~ KIDDIES KRAFTING Children will have a blast learning through hands-on activities featuring experiments, curated books and art while exploring lessons involving: Science, Math, Reading, Geography, Social Studies, History, Art & Music. Children bring home a project daily!
J: Afternoon Session
Class Name: LEGO Robotics and Coding - Summer Fun
Age Range: Children entering grades 2-4 in September 2023
This fun, interactive program will introduce students to coding and robotics using the LEGO® Education Robotics Construction Sets. Children will learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of the robotic components. They will work in teams of 2 on guided projects building models, attaching sensors and motors, and using a computer to program the model’s behavior. Children will gain confidence and understanding as they build and code their robots.

K: Morning Session
Class Name: Drone Captains
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
Do you love drones? We sure do! And we want to share our love for them with you. In this fun new coding course, you write the code and the drone obeys! You and your team of drone coders will come up with a plan, code it, and watch the drone execute it at your command. You will learn the basics of coding in the most fun way possible, and then watch as your drone does everything you programmed it to.

Class Name: Red Hot Robotics
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
Join us for a week of fun with amazing robots! Learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with your very own super cool robot! Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home with you!
Week of August 14
M: Morning Session
Class Name: Photography Stills
Age Range: Children entering grades K-5 in September 2023
Stills program is the place for young photographers. Students will learn basic tenets of photography and to set up amazing shots. But be prepared: once you start taking pictures you will not want to stop! The class concludes with a gallery show in which students will display each of their works in print.
N: Afternoon Session
Class Name: Robot Olympics with EV3 Robotics
Age Range: Children entering grades 3-6 in September 2023
In the EV3 Robot Olympics, students will build and program robots to compete in sports-themed challenges. Your child will learn both mechanical and computer programming concepts as they create robots that run races, play hockey, and much more. Students will work in groups, using LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 technology, to complete challenges. Your child is sure to have fun as they build, learn, and play.

Class Name: RoboThink Battle Bots
Age Range: Children entering grades 1-5 in September 2023
Children will use critical thinking, spatial awareness and problem solving skills to build their own robot, use their imagination to make it bigger and better, and then they will have a great time battling.

Q: Morning Session
Class Name: Slippery Slime Adventures
Age Range: Children entering grades K-6 in September 2023
What is slime? Where does it come from? How do you make it? Join us for a week full of crazy slippery slimy adventures. Learn about the science behind polymers such as slime, silly putty, bounce balls and more. Explore what other polymers are there and what can we do with them during our daily lives. Investigate the properties of balloons and even have a water balloon fight! Slime Olympics are in order so join us as a participant in this very important competition!
R: Afternoon Session
Class Name: Fashion Forward
Age Range: Children entering grades K-4 in September 2023
Do you have an eye for fashion? Can you pull together an amazing outfit from boring old clothes that you find in your closet? If the answer is yes, then it is time to take it to the next level! In our fun new class you will learn to design and sew an outfit and, since one of the most important parts of being a fashion designer is showing off your designs, we’ll even have a runway show at the end of the session, where you can model your chic creations. Get ready design world – here you come!

The Little Hilltoppers Sports Camp is a unique children’s summer camp experience! It will offer a small group learning environment surrounding the basics of tennis and basketball. The coaches have a large expertise in their respective sport as they are all past or present Summit High School varsity athletes. The daily schedule will consist of station work in which your kids will learn skills, drills, and strategy for both tennis and basketball. We will then incorporate these lessons into games and competitions with the chance to win fun prizes each week. Our main goal is to have your kids leave camp every day with a smile on their face and a newfound appreciation for being active. We look forward to coaching the future of Summit sport.

T1: Kinder Kickers (ages 4 -5)

is a special 2 1/2 hour program created to introduce preschoolers to soccer through fun and games. Players participate in small-sided drills and games designed to keep their attention, while teaching soccer fundamentals
T2: Skills and Drills I (ages 6 to 8)
9:00-12:00
is geared towards building individual soccer skills, emphasizing ball control. Included are controlled dribbling, trapping, passing, heading and controlled shooting. This session offers a challenging environment aimed at making each participant a more confident player
T3: Advanced Skills and Drills (9-12 years old)

U: Track and Field Camp
Learn proper warm up techniques, warm up games, relay races & runs of 100 to 800 meters, timed runs for runners to improve their personal best times, (which will be recorded), hurdles, and field events such as javelin (with mini turbo javs) and cool down jogs & stretches. The coaches will introduce certain drills and specific events associated with track and field. The camp will end with a meet like competition on the third day. T-shirts will be given to each camper.

V: Weekly Squirts Multi Sports
The Squirts Multi Sports program allows children to try a variety of different sports throughout the season including Lacrosse, Soccer and Track & Field. All sports are taught in a safe and structured learning environment designed to ensure learning and most importantly: fun, fun, fun!

W: Weekly Soccer
Soccer Squirts is your child's perfect introduction to the most popular sport in the world! Skills covered include dribbling, passing, shooting, stealing, and more. Each session is taught through structured activities, fun games, and scrimmages designed to ensure learning and most importantly: fun, fun, fun!

Multi Sports Camp gives players the opportunity to experience a variety of sports throughout the program including soccer, basketball, flag football, kickball, lacrosse, pilo polo, and more! Players will work on developing their skills in each sport before participating in small tournament-style scrimmages.

Y: Foundation Tennis Camp
Camp to run July 10 - July 13 and July 24 - July 27 and August 14 - August 17
This camp is open for both boys and girls. Our tennis camp gives players the opportunity to experience tennis instruction that will both challenge them and ensure they have a fantastic experience at camp. Every camp is coached by our professional staff that is trained to encourage maximum participation, good sportsmanship, and above all - FUN! Beginner level players will learn basic hitting techniques while developing their footwork, movement and hand-eye-coordination to help achieve greater rallying success. Intermediate/advanced level players will practice advanced technical skills that include: Executing top spins, slices and drop shots. Players will also develop the tactical element of the game.

• Racket familiarity and court awareness • Forehands and backhands
• Serving
• Volleying
• Rallying
Other skills covered at camp:
• Rules of tennis
• Match play and scoring
• Coordination, balance, agility and speed training • Lower and upper body workouts
Groups are separated by age and ability to ensure all players flourish in an optimum positive learning environment. Children must bring their own tennis racket. All other equipment needed for this camp will be provided by First Play Sports. All participants will receive a FREE T shirt

AA: Weekly Track and Field
Foundation Track & Field is designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of Track & Field. Each session will focus on a different aspect of the game including throwing (javelin & discus), jumping (long jump, high jump, triple jump), sprinting, distance running, and more!
